American International Accreditation Association of Schools and Colleges

As part of our commitment to improvement, we are seeking accreditation with the American International Accreditation Association of Schools and Colleges. Although we know this is not compulsory for US curriculum schools in Dubai, we appreciate the formal review process, and we recognize the standards outlined by this body.

This drive towards accreditation will align our practices within school and enable our educators and staff to gain external validation for their efforts. We will also be part of a wider team of US accredited schools which we can partner with, and share resources and ideas.

More information about the accreditation can be found here: www.aiaasc.org

Our Community

Schools in Nad Al Sheba

Within the Nad Al Sheba area, there are plenty of schools but the Nad Al Sheba catchment area of Fifth Dimension lacks a community focused school that is aspirational and inclusive. We know that within the Dubai landscape, there is a trend of parents seeking US curriculum standards whilst maintaining Islamic values and a strong offering of Arabic. Our school will be future focused and ambitious in its offering, whist maintaining strong cultural values that reflect the community.

Our School Day

Happiness and Well-being

At Fifth Dimension, we know that physical and emotional well-being are crucial to effective learning.

In short, happiness, wellbeing, learning, enjoyment and success share a direct relationship with each other.

Given the heavy social pressures and a world-wide pandemic that our children and communities have faced, now more than ever, we want to help our learners focus on emotional wellness, and happiness.

Good humour and positive activity in schools are essential.  Children won’t access the curriculum, however brilliant they are, unless they are happy.   Happy and confident to ask questions, happy to engage, and happy to make mistakes.   To achieve this, senior leaders must foster a learning environment where everyone has a voice, and children are encouraged to engage in the co-construction of learning and establishment of the values which define the school community.   Above all, children need to know that they will be listened to.

There is a growing body of scientific evidence on the factors around happiness and well-being, which can then be applied in work with individuals and institutions. Having a better understanding of how to increase the likelihood of happiness with life, and how to channel the emotional pains of road blocks and failure en route, are the sort of skills that can substantially improve an individual’s progress.   Today’s generation of young people have emerged as a generation with a fear of failure, yet failure can help to define success.

Happiness is also part of UAE’s Centennial plans and it is also part of our school’s mission.

Happiness counts.  It matters in education.  A happy child is a child that is confident.   A confident child is a child that learns.  A child that learns is child who readily progresses and develops a ‘give it a go attitude’, and equips themselves with the skill set to reach their potential and grow from a learner of today to the leader of tomorrow.

As we move towards opening in September, 2021, we will share further details about our happiness and well-being program.

The California State Standards

Our team benchmarked the educational standards and frameworks deployed in the United States. The California State Standards stood out for their balance of cognitive, behavioral and subject standards relevant to a child growing and learning in a fast-changing world.

At Fifth Dimension, we will adopt the California State Standards and contextualise them for our local community.  The California Department of Education website articulates what the standards are:

  • Standards – provide a framework to organize both what learners should be able to do, and what they should know as they transition from grade level to grade level.
  • Curriculum – provides organization to the subject content, this may or may not include materials that can be used to demonstrate the learner’s attainment in each subject domain.

To infuse STEAM throughout our school, our staff and leaders will align the California State Standards vertically and horizontally across grade levels.

At the same time, we will meet UAE requirements in Arabic, Islamic Education, UAE Education and Moral Education. In compliance with KHDA expectations, the curriculum will also keep innovation at the forefront of our curricular approach through the STEAM focus and use of Makerspaces as incubators for ideation and innovation.
